Are you at risk of losing your accommodation
because of rent arrears?
Do you want the opportunity to secure a Face to Face appointment
with a Specialist Money Advice Worker employed by the Citizens Advice Bureau?
Scarborough Citizens Advice Bureau is working in partnership with Registered Social Landlords and Scarborough Borough Council's Homeless Prevention Officer to identify households with a debt problem that is threatening their ability to sustain their accommodation.
These households will be referred to a CAB Money Advice Worker who will:
- Deal with any immediate threat to the home or other priority services, (e.g., Gas, Electricity or Water) and any loans secured on the property.
- Maximise income (e.g. check benefit entitlement).
- Prepare a realistic household budget.
- Negotiate payments on priority debts (rent, mortgage, Council Tax, utilities, secured loans).
- Look at non-priority debts, mainly consumer debts, and decide a strategy.
You can obtain access to this service by contacting your Rent Officer (if renting from a Housing Association) or through Scarborough Borough Council Homeless Prevention Office (if renting from a Private Landlord).
If you do not have rent arrears but do have Council Tax arrears, you can obtain help from the CAB Advisor in the Customer First Offices at the Town Hall each Wednesday.
