PLEASE NOTE: Bogus text messages claiming to be from CAB - in England.

Firms offering debt advice have been sending bogus text messages to mobile phones, claiming to be from the CAB. The message says:
" Citizens Advice Bureau will talk to 6,600 people today with debt problems. Do you need advice on debt? Reply TALK to receive a call from a friendly advisor".

These messages have not been sent by CAB. If you reply, you won't get through to a CAB adviser, but a private company offering to sort out your debts in a number of ways including: Invidvidual Voluntary Arrangements (IVA), Debt management plans, and Consolidation loans. If you're in debt, you should be very careful about trying to sort out your problems in one of these ways and should always get advice from an independent debt adviser first. You can get free, confidential and independent debt advice from your local Citizens Advice Bureau.
